Our last brief of the first year is a Time based media project called About Time. The brief was introduced to us by looking at Psychogeography, Psychogeography is, according to the Urban Dictionary, “The practice of exploring the urban environment while being led by curiosity and a paused sense of time and place. While it is important to let your senses absorb the spaces around you, it is equally, if not more important to find yourself in new spaces, spaces stumbled upon by chance; paying attention to the smaller details, the lost objects, the signage, the fragments that make walking a reward in itself, with a slower pace and an increased opportunity to revel in the simple pleasures of things. A sense of wander/wonder is essential to find the simplicity in urban living.”

With this in mind, we were all asked to draw our initial on a map of Luton.

We then had to go for a walk around Luton, following in the path that my initial made. I decided to go around the middle of my “A”, so I went as far as the high town, around the train station, by The Hat Factory, through The Mall and down towards the park in the lower town. All in all we were walking for about two hours and in that time I managed to capture a lot of video footage and took a lot of photos.

After going for a walk, we came back and sat in a group and talked about our walks and what we discovered. It was interesting to see where everyone went and what different things we saw and photographed and videoed.

For the last hour of the afternoon we had a Premiere workshop with Anna and Pinar. This workshop gave us the opportunity to learn basic skills on Premiere. I felt this workshop helped me as I have only done some basic video editing before, it motivated me a lot because I realised how much I could do with this software and how clean cut and neat my video could potentially look. We looked briefly at trimming, zooming, effects and sound and this was the video I created.
